2018 Umpire Information for Minnetonka Baseball Association

MBA has opportunities for new and experienced umpires for the upcoming season.

Community and Travel Program Umpires

Minnetonka Baseball Association (MBA) uses the North Metro Umpire Association (NMUA) for managing our umpires for all MBA games for 9 year olds and up.  MBA and NMUA are committed to using local umpires whenever possible.  This year, North Metro will hold a training session in the Minnetonka area as well as others around the Twin Cities.  If you are interested in umpiring for MBA for the upcoming 2018 season, please register for a NMUA training session.  Dates and locations can be found on their website http://www.nmua.net/  .

Register early to make sure you secure your spot.  Here are some details:

  • All Umpires through NMUA must be at least 14 years old (Turn 14 during 2018)

  • Umpires will be paid by NMUA and the game fees vary by age and level of competition.

  • As a certified NMUA umpire, you can also work in other communities they serve if you so choose.

For more information on the North Metro Umpire Association and their requirements and expectations visit their website:  http://www.nmua.net/.

Umpire Apprentice Program

For New Umpires (ages 13 – 15)

Once again, MBA will offer an Apprentice Umpire program.  This program is designed to allow new umpires a chance to try it out in a less competitive environment.  Umpires will officiate Community 8 games, where there are no pitchers, but balls and strikes are called (no walks or called out on strikes).   The focus will be on knowing the rules, positioning, and making the call. .

  • Umpires will be paid $20 for a game.

  • All apprentice umpires will be required to attend a no cost, 1 ½ hour training/meeting held near the beginning of the season (Bennett Family Park, Monday April 16th and 18th,  6:00-7:30pm)

  • Umpires must be at least 13 years old (Turn 13 during 2018)

If you are interested in the Umpire Apprentice Program, you must register here:  Apprentice Umpire Registration.  This program has become very popular and will fill up.  Please register early to secure your spot.

If you have any questions about umpiring in the upcoming 2018 MBA season, please let me know.
